Sincona sale 101, lot 3409

This specimen was lot 3409 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 1,400 CHF (about US$2,110 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916. 20 Kronen 1900, Wien. Vorzüglich. (empire of Austria-Hungary, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, twenty coronas of 1900, Vienna mint. Extremely Fine.)"

The thaler was abandoned in 1872 for the florin, which in turn was superseded by the corona in 1892. The corona was used through World War One and briefly even after as the truncated republic of Austria tried to organize its affairs. This type was struck 1892-1905.

Recorded mintage: 26,537, a scarce date.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.900 fine gold, 21 mm diameter, designed by Andreas Neudeck and Anton Scharff, this specimen 6.78 g.
