Sincona sale 77, lot 2931

This specimen was lot 2931 in Sincona sale 77 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 2,800 CHF (about US$3,399 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Franz II. (I.), 1792-1835. Taler 1833 A, Wien. Fehlerhafte Randschrift FVNDAMENIVM. NGC MS65. Prachtvolle Erhaltung mit herrlicher Patina. (empire of Austria, Francis I, 1792-1835, thaler of 1833, Vienna mint. Edge with incorrect lettering FVNDAMENIVM instead of FVNDAMENTVM. Beautiful condition with magnificent patina.)"

This type was issued from Vienna 1831-35 and is common, altho this variety obtains a premium. Thalers were struck to this weight standard until 1852.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a common date.

Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver.
