CNG Triton XXIX, lot 6492

This specimen was lot 6492 in CNG Triton XXIX (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $1,347.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA, Holy Roman Empire. Karl II. Archduke, 1564-1590. AV Dukat. Klagenfurt mint. Dated 1586. Armored figure of Karl standing facing, holding scepter / Crowned and collared coat-of-arms. Slightly wavy flan. Near EF." This type was struck 1586-90 with posthumous issues known for 1591 and 1597. Earlier dates had different arms on the reverse. It is one of the more common Hapsburg ducats of the period. Never emperor himself, his son Ferdinand became emperor in 1619.
