Sincona sale 86, lot 1701

This specimen was lot 1701 in Sincona sale 86 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$269 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Victoria, 1837-1901. Half Sovereign 1896 M, Melbourne. Old veiled bust, St. George reverse. NGC XF45."

This type was struck 1893-1901 at Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. This is a fairly common date.

Recorded mintage: 218,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 3.99 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 3.97 g.
