Ascension Island 1995 50 pence
This specimen was lot 31007 in Heritage auction 3096 (Dallas, TX, March 2021), where it sold for $3,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ascension Island: British Dependency. Elizabeth II gold Proof "Queen Mother" 50 Pence 1995 PR70 Ultra Cameo NGC. Tied for the finest at NGC with one other, this rare specimen depicts a sleek portrait of the Queen Mother fishing and a regal portrait of a crowned Elizabeth. From the Paramount Collection." This tiny island in the south Atlantic has little use for coinage and all its issues are NCLT's.
Recorded mintage: unknown but common in copper-nickel, unknown in silver and 150 in gold.
