This specimen features the portrait of national hero José de San Martin, liberator of Argentina, Chile and Peru from Spanish rule, who died in exile in 1850. This type, struck 1954-56, is the last of several subtypes struck since 1950 featuring his portrait. It is common in all grades.

Specification: copper-nickel plated steel, 17.2 mm diameter, designed by Mario Baiardi.
