Argentina 1881 50 centavos
This specimen was lot 34005 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $3,360. The catalog description[1] noted, "ARGENTINA. 50 Cen[t]avos, 1881. Buenos Aires Mint. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Unc Details. First year of issue of a three-year type. One of only a few certified examples on either the NGC or PCGS population reports. This decently preserved example boasts bold intricate design features and is free of tone. Close inspection reveals evidence of a past cleaning accounting for the details designation. Despite its shortcomings a presentable example of this low mintage RARE issue. From the Pat Johnson Collection." It is accompanied by a silver ten centavos, twenty centavos and one peso.
Recorded mintage: 1,020.
Specification: 12.50 g, 0.900 fine silver.
