This specimen was lot 75233 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN. Akita. 4 Momme 6 Bu, ND (1863). Man'en Era. PCGS AU-58. Just shy of Mint State, this impressive example offers clear detail upon the stampings as well as pleasing luster and patina, with deeper cabinet toning near the perimeter. Attractive." Akita is a prefecture on the northwest coast of Honshu. In the nineteenth century, before the coming of the railroad, it must have been pretty isolated. The SCWC lists this as 4 momme 6 fun.
