Sincona sale 35, lot 5008

This specimen was lot 5008 in Sincona sale 35 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 550 CHF (about US$653 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Aargau | Kanton, 10 Batzen 1818. Gutes vorzüglich. Patina. (canton of Aargau, ten batzen of 1818. Good extremely fine, Toning.)"

This type was struck 1808-09 and 1818 while the canton was under Napoleonic domination. All dates are scarce. This is the last ten batzen struck in Aargau. Forty batzen made a thaler.
