Jean Elsen sale 163, lot 1514

This specimen was lot 1514 in Jean Elsen sale 163 (Brussels, November 2025), where it sold for €320 (about US$370 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ALLEMAGNE, AIX-LA-CHAPELLE (AACHEN), Ville, AR Taler, 1571. Au titre de Maximilien II. D/ Charlemagne trônant de f., ten. un sceptre et un gl. cr., au-dessus de l'écu à l'aigle. R/ Aigle impériale couronnée. Nettoyé. A été monté. (Germany, city of Aachen, silver thaler of 1571, struck in the name of Maximilian II. Obverse: Charlemagne enthroned, facing, holding a scepter and an orb, eagle shield below; reverse: crowned imperial eagle. Cleaned, mount removed, Fine - Very Fine.)"

This type is listed for 1568-71 and features the emperor facing straight ahead. The slightly later Dav-8904 has him facing slightly left.
