Aruba is one of the islands of the Netherlands Antilles. Though all the Netherlands Antilles was granted domestic autonomy in 1954, Aruba was granted special status in 1986 to form an independent government within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Coinage commenced in 1986, including this florin, with a reverse design similar to many of the coins of Aruba. This type was struck at Utrecht 1986-2013 although none were struck for circulation after 1995.
