This aluminum 5 mils was part of the first decimal republic coinage, with 1000 mils = 1 pound. Cyprus, off the coast of Turkey, fell to the British in 1878 and was made a crown colony in 1925. It became a republic in 1960. has been de facto partitioned between the Turkish north and the Greek center and south since the early 1970's.

Recorded mintage: 12,500,000.
