This example was issued under the rule of Muhammad Shams al-Din III in AH 1331 (1913 AD). The Maldives are an island group in the Indian Ocean; they were a protectorate of Britain 1887-1968. The natives make their living by fishing. The island group is slowly being inundated by rising sea levels.
