Heritage sale 3038, lot 36082

This specimen was lot 36082 in Heritage sale 3038 (Dallas, January 2015), where it sold for $1,292.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Litzmannstadt magnesium 10 Pfennig Token 1942 AU. Issued for the Concentration Camp in Lodz, to replace the paper chits." Five, ten and twenty mark tokens also exist and are scarce. The ghetto was liquidated in 1944 and all its inhabitants sent to the death camps.

Recorded mintage: 100,000.
