This specimen was lot 5281 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 325 CHF (about US$490 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, 6 Deniers 1833, Genf. Silberabschlag. Selten. Fast FDC. (Switzerland, city and canton of Geneva, six deniers of 1833, Geneva mint, off metal strike in silver. Rare, About Mint State.)"
Geneva, one of the cantons of Switzerland, struck coins sporadically throughout the eighteenth century. The coinage was interrupted by Napoleonic occupation but resumed in 1817. In 1839, the coinage was decimalized to 100 centimes = one franc. Prior to that, French denominations such as deniers, sous and pistoles were used. This type was struck in 1819, 1825 and 1833 with billon and silver strikes noted for all three dates. The billon issues are common, the silver issues somewhat scarce.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 0.85 g, billon, 15.5 mm diameter, this specimen silver, 0.88 g.
