Sincona sale 43, lot 2275

This specimen was lot 2275 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$298 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALY | Genova, Dogi Biennali, 1528-1797 Scudo stretto 1713. Sehr schön. Kleiner Randfehler. (republic of Genoa, biennial doges, 1528-1797, scudo of 1713. Very fine, Minor edge nick.)"

Altho the cataloguers identified this as a scudo stretto (Dav-1366), the weight marks this specimen as a scudo largo (Dav-1365 or Dav-LS555) of a type struck 1670-1719. It is quite rare and this lot sold for a fraction of its catalog value. Two, three, four and six scudi exist.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: 38 g, silver, this specimen 38.44 g.

Catalog reference: KM 113, MIR 294/70, Dav-1365.
