Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice Online Auction, lot 74279
SB925-74279r.jpg

This specimen was lot 74279 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "BULGARIA. 5 Leva, 1976. Sofia Mint. PCGS PROOF-64 Deep Cameo. Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the April Uprising against the Ottomans." The uprising in question occurred in 1876 and was crushed with the maximum destruction of life and property. The reporting of the atrocities caused the British government to reluctantly abandon its longstanding support of the Turks. Another five leva of 1976 honored Khristo Botev (KM 96).

Recorded mintage: 200,000 proofs.

Specification: 20.5 g, 0.500 fine silver, 36.1 mm diameter, edge lettered ДА ЖИВЕЙ, ДА ЖИВЕЙ БЪЛГАРИЯ.

Catalog reference: KM-97.
