Stack's Bowers 2025 NYINC sale, lot 37334

This specimen was lot 37334 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Gold 50 Pence, 2022. Llantrisant Mint. Elizabeth II. NGC PROOF-70 Ultra Cameo. Alan Turing." This NCLT honored mathematician Alan Turing (1912-54), often called the inventor of the computer. Other fifty pence for 2022 include KM 1337 (shield reverse), S-H103 (queen's platinum jubilee), KM 2152 (Commonwealth Games), KM 2156 (Eeyore), KM 2157 (Kanga and Roo), KM 2158 (LGBTQ Pride), KM 2160 (Winnie the Pooh), KM 2161 (centenary of the BBC), KM 2162 (Snowman), KM 2163 (Harry Potter), KM 2164 (Hogwarts Express) and KM 2165 (queen's legacy). Most, like this one, were struck in multiple formats.

Recorded mintage: 52,092 in copper-nickel plus more in silver, silver piedfort and gold.

Specification: KM 2159: 8 g, copper-nickel, 27.3 mm diameter, plain edge; KM 2159a: 8 g, 0.925 fine silver; KM 2159b: 16 g, 0.925 fine silver; KM 2159c: 15.5 g, 0.916 fine gold.
