Sincona sale 18, lot 2239

This specimen was lot 2239 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 1,300 (about US$1,713 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"40 Francs 1807. Toulouse Selten. Sehr schön. (empire of France, Napoleon I, forty francs of 1807, Toulouse mint, rare, very fine.)"

While the 1807-A is scarce, the 1807-I, 1807-M, 1807-U and 1807-W are all rare.

Recorded mintage: 4,940.

Specification: 12.90 g, 0.900 fine gold, 26 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE, designed by Pierre-Joseph Tiolier and Jean-Pierre Droz, this specimen 12.81 g.
