This specimen was lot 71737 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 2 Skilling Dansk, 1779-CHL. Altona Mint. Christian VII. NGC MS-62. A somewhat appealing Mint State example with deeper tone on the devices and bright olive gray and satin coloration across the fields. The first of the type we can recall offering." This type was struck 1778-83 and is listed as inexpensive. The Altona mint, opened in 1771 to replace the Glückstadt mint, was in Holstein downstream from Hamburg. This example realized triple the catalog value in EF. At the time, the monetary system was 12 penning = one skilling, 16 skilling = one mark, 4 mark = one krone, 6 mark = one daler specie, 2 daler specie = one ducat.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.18 g, 0.343 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-631.2.
