France 1845-B 25 centimes
The first specimen was lot 1435 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 100 CHF (about US$124 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANKREICH Louis Philippe, 1830-1848. 25 Centimes 1845, Rouen. Hübsche Patina. Fast FDC. (France, Louis Philippe (1830-48), twenty-five centimes of 1845, Rouen mint. Exquisite patina, choice uncirculated.)"
In 1845, the quarter franc struck since 1803 was converted into a twenty-five centime coin. It seems doubtful that many people noticed as the new coin was the same size and weight as the old. The Rouen mint struck both types in large quantity that year. The type and the denomination was terminated in 1848.
Recorded mintage: 3,426,629[2] plus 1,176,361 quarter francs.
Specification: 1.25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 15 mm diameter, plain edge. Designed by Joseph François Domard, 1792-1858, this specimen 1.25 g.
