Sincona sale 91, lot 3448

The first specimen was lot 3448 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

" SCHWEIZ Schwyz, Örtli 1672, Schwyz. Variante mit eckigem, leerem Wappen. Von grosser Seltenheit, vermutlich das 2. bekannte Exemplar. Fast sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion SINCONA 29, Zürich, Mai 2016, Los 2488. Exemplar der Slg. Zuberbühler, SINCONA 16, Zürich, Oktober 2013, Los 5885. (Switzerland, canton of Schwyz, örtli of 1672, Schwyz mint, variety with square, empty arms. Extremely rare, perhaps two known. About very fine.)"

This is the rarest of the three varieties for 1672: KM 27 (small crown over eagle, shown here), KM 28 (with rosette) and KM 29 (large crown in legend). It was probably worth one tenth of a thaler.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 5.44 g.

Catalog reference: KM 27, Wielandt (Schwyz) 75 (as 1/4 Taler). D.T. 1220 (this example), HMZ 2-791a.
