Russia 1740 1/4 ruble
This specimen was lot 48 in Sincona sale 84 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 26,000 CHF (about US$35,013 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, Polupoltinnik 1740, Red Mint. Very rare, only 2,140 pieces struck. 10 roubles according to Petrov. 10 roubles according to Ilyin. NGC AU50. Nice toning. Minor flan flaw. From the Soedermann Collection, auction SINCONA 24, Zürich, October 2015, lot 192 (price realized: CHF 57,500)."
This rare type was struck 1739-40. This denomination, worth one quarter ruble, was never struck in large numbers.
