This specimen was lot 2825 in Stephen Album sale 37 (Santa Rosa, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $166.60. The catalog description[1] noted, "MYSORE: Tipu Sultan, 1782-1799, AE paisa, Nagar, AM1224 year 1, Persian letter alif above the elephant, superb bold strike, EF." The Mauludi Era (AM) was a calendar invented and used only by Tipu Sultan and it lapsed after his death in battle in 1799. Many mints issued these copper paisa in dozens of styles.
