Colombia 1832-PN RU real

This example is a debased silver one real struck for REPUBLICA DE COLOMBIA from 1827-1834 at the Popayán mint. The initials RU correspond to the assayers. The region was renamed Republica de Nueva Granada in 1837. This specimen was part of lot 44088 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. Three PCGS-graded 1 Reales from 1832 and 1833. Included are 1832-RU. Popayán. EF-40; 1833-RS. Bogotá. EF-40; 1833-RU. Popayán. VF-35. (Total: 3 pieces). From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins."
