This specimen was lot 75761 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $125. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Papal (States of the Church). 10 Soldi, 1869-R Year XXII. Rome Mint. Pius IX. PCGS MS-64." This type is known for 1866-68 and is common. It was struck to the standard of a French half franc or Italian fifty centesimi. The pope was enjoying his last days as an independent potentate; when French troops left in 1870, Italian troops marched in and forcibly unified Rome with the rest of the kingdom of Italy.

Recorded mintage: 4,432,894 (years XXIII and XXIV).

Specification: 2.5 g, 0.835 fine silver, 18.5 mm diameter.
