This specimen was lot 76443 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN. Safavid Dynasty. Rupee, AH 1170 (1756/57). Rasht Mint. Isma'il III. NGC AU-50. Elusive as a type, this Rupee displays boldly executed strike, with luster reserved in the deeply impressed devices, with a soft golden tone throughout." This specimen was offered again as lot 75656 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $125. This type was struck at Rasht 1166-1168. Isma'il served as a puppet for Ali Mardan Khan Bakhtiari and later for the Zands.
