Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 75568

This specimen was lot 75568 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $105. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. 5 Ore, 1917. Gustav V. NGC MS-62. A well-struck piece whose iron composition imparts an almost gun-metal dark gray hue on surfaces of a satiny gloss. The overall impact is one of deeply toned silver. Most attractive." This type is listed for 1917-19 and iron was used as a substitute for bronze during World War One. It is common in worn condition but scarce nice.

Recorded mintage: 2,953,320 plus a few struck in bronze (KM 779.2).

Specification: 7 g, iron, 27 mm diameter.
