Sweden 1755 1/4 ducat Fr-71
This specimen was lot 3217 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,617 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEDEN, KÖNIGREICH, Adolf Friedrich, 1751-1771. 1/4 Dukat 1755, Stockholm. GOLD. Min. gewellt, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (kingdom of Sweden, Adolf Frederick, 1751-71, quarter ducat of 1755, Stockholm mint. Slightly bent, very fine to extremely fine.)"
In the pre-reform Swedish coinage, 8 öre = one mark and 96 öre = one riksdaler. This type was struck 1754-55 in such tiny quantities that one wonders why they bothered.
Recorded mintage: 292.
Specification: 0.87 g, .976 fine gold, this specimen 0.90 g.
