France 1807-Q 1/2 franc
This specimen is lot 973 in Jean Elsen sale 103 (Brussels, December 2009), where it sold for 2,200 euro. The catalog description[2] noted,
"FRANCE, Napoléon Ier (1804-1814), AR demi-franc, 1807 Q, Perpignan. Belle patine. Très rare dans cette qualité. Superbe à Fleur de Coin" (France, Napoleon I, 1804-14, silver half franc, 1807 Q, Perpignan mint. Nice patina, very rare in this quality, Extremely Fine to Uncirculated).
This type was struck 1806-07 with eleven different date-mintmark combinations, of which the 1806-A is the only one at all common. Le Franc[1] reports one known of the 1807-Q, inferior to this specimen.
