This type was issued in 1992-93 during Argentina's fourth currency reform. It was superseded by a similar type with different lettering (KM 110.2). The obverse features Buenos Aires city Hall. Argentina was to suffer from bouts of hyperinflation for forty years, impoverishing a once prosperous region. In 1970, 100 old pesos = 1 new peso; in 1983, 10000 pesos = 1 peso argentino; in 1985, 1000 pesos argentinos = 1 austral. Another reform would occur again in 1992. The drab, charmless design of this coin suggests that its makers did not intend it for long service.
Recorded mintage: 150,000,000.
Specification: 5.40 g, aluminum bronze, 24.2 mm diameter.
