Sincona sale 18, lot 3074

This specimen was lot 3074 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 475 (about US$626 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Taler o. J. Hall. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Austria, thaler without date, Hall mint, very fine to extremely fine.)"

Altho this type could have been minted any time during Ferdinand's long reign (1521-64), we have narrowed it down to 1540-56 as thalers issued after that date always show the emperor bearded.

Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly common.

Specification: silver, this specimen 28.68 g.

Catalog reference: M.T. 114, Dav-8026.
