Papal States 1699 piastra Dav-4109
This specimen was lot 1277 in Sincona sale 76 (Zurich, May 2022), where it sold for 3,600 CHF (about US$4,370 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALY | Kirchenstaat. Innozenz XII. 1691-1700. Piastra 1699 / Anno VIII, Roma. Mit dem Hafen von Anzio in der Rückseitendarstellung. Sehr selten. Gutes vorzüglich. NGC AU58. Feine Patina. (Italy, Papal States, Innocent XII, 1691-1700, piastra of the year eight (1699), Rome mint, with the harbor at Anzio on the reverse. Very rare, Good extremely fine, Nicely toned.)"
This scarce commemorative honors the restoration of the harbor at Anzio, famous today for the battle there during World War Two.
