Sincona sale 77, lot 2447

This specimen was lot 2447 in Sincona sale 77 (Zurich, May 2022), where it sold for 30,000 CHF (about US$36,414 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA | Mughal Empire. Jalal al-Din Akbar, 963-1014 H. (1556-1605). Mohur IE 49 (1011/1012 H.), Burhanpur. NGC MS64. Prachtexemplar. (Cabinet piece.)" The Ilahi Era (IE) was a solar calendar used during Akbar's reign for the dating of coinage and was abandoned a few years after his death. This type is recorded from seven mints and from Burhanpur for years 48-49.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a scarce mint.
