Sincona sale 83, lot 3349

This specimen was lot 3349 in Sincona sale 83 (Zurich, May 2023), where it sold for 3,400 CHF (about US$4,550 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "POLEN, Danzig, Stadt, Dukat 1629, Mit Titel Sigismunds III. Selten. Sehr schön. Fassungsspuren (Poland, city of Danzig, ducat of 1629, struck in the name of Sigismund III. Rare, Very fine, Traces of mounting)." This type was struck with several subtypes 1585-1632. This subtype is listed for 1614-31. Its long run of production make it among the more available Polish ducats. Triple and quintuple ducats also exist.
