Stephen Album sale 50, lot 2285

This specimen was lot 2285 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $570. The catalog description[1] noted, "AFSHARID: Nadir Shah, 1735-1747, AR abbasi , Tiflis, AH1151, type B, at the reduced standard used at most mints in 1150, also 1151 at Tiflis; reverse partially double-struck, choice XF, RR. Tiflis is the old name for Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia." The SCWC lists the type B rupee for Tiflis AH 1149-1151 and also KM 375.2 (type C, 4.6 g). This example may have been struck to the type C weight standard using type B dies.
