Mysore AM1215/5 rupee
This specimen was lot 585 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $2,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "MYSORE: Tipu Sultan, 1782-1799, AR rupee (imami), Patan, AM1215 year 5, KM-126, very rare date, still unlisted in KM but noted by Henderson (published in 1921), bold strike, XF, RRR, ex Charles W. Lueders III Collection." The Indian state of Mysore, under her rulers Haider Ali (1761-82) and Tipu Sultan (1782-99), was a serious thorn in the side of the British Raj. This type was struck AM 1198-1216 and was accompanied by a half rupee (KM 125) and double rupee (KM 127).
