This specimen was lot 2452 in Sincona sale 77 (Zurich, May 2022), where it sold for 4,500 CHF (about US$5,642 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA | Mughal Empire. Shihab al-Din Muhammad Shah Jahan, 1037-1068 H. (1628-1658). Mohur 1046 H.Year 10, Alahabad. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. NGC MS62. Überdurchschnittlich gut ausgeprägt. (Rare in this condition, Extraordinarily well struck.)" This type is listed from twenty mints in India with regnal years 9-10 and 15-21. The Mughal Empire dominated India during the seventeenth century but broke up in the eighteenth century under external attack, Hindu rebellion and civil war. This collapse allowed European colonizers entry into the subcontinent and eventual British control.
