Sta ANA 30431r.jpg

This specimen was lot 30431 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $851.88. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 40 Franc, 1807-I. PCGS Genuine--Ex: Jewelry, EF Details." This date is priced about 25% more than the 1807-A but about 2½ times the 1808-A forty francs. it is, however, not as rare as the mintage would indicate.

Recorded mintage: 1,829.

Specification: 12.90 g, .900 fine gold, 26 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE, designed by Pierre-Joseph Tiolier and Jean-Pierre Droz.

Catalog reference: Fr-485; KM-A688.2; Gad-1082a, F.539/2.
