Hungary 1879-KB 8 forint
This specimen was lot 3315 in Sincona sale 23 (Zurich, May 2015), where it sold for 260 CHF (about US$327 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"UNGARN, Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916 8 Forint-20 Francs 1879. Kremnitz. Vorzüglich-FDC. (kingdom of Hungary, Francis Joseph (1848-1916) eight forint/twenty francs of 1879, Kremnitz mint, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This type was issued for Hungary 1870-80 from the Kremnitz (Komoczbanya in Magyar) mint during the reign of Emperor Francis Joseph of Austria-Hungary. The denomination was struck 1870-92 to match the standard of the French twenty francs d'or. Most dates are common. After the reorganization of the Hapsburg empire into the Dual Monarchy in 1867, Hungary received her own coinage separate from Austrian issues (KM 2269). In the aftermath of World War One, the Hapsburg monarchy collapsed and Hungary became independent but without its former territories in Slovakia, Transylvania and Croatia.
