Ponterio sale 177, lot 13325

This specimen was lot 13325 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $4,700. The catalog description^[1] noted, "POLAND. Zloty-15 Kopeks, 1832-HT. NGC MS-64. Eagle type." This specimen sold for many multiples of catalog value and is likely rarer than the SCWC acknowledges. This type superseded a larger type (KM C114.1, 4.55 g, .593 fine silver) with the tsar's bust on the obverse. This issue was struck 1832-41 in St. Petersburg while Poland was under Russian rule (1815-1918). One zloty equaled fifteen kopeks. Russian coinage for Poland ended in 1850.
