Greece G109-2598r.jpg

This specimen was lot 2598 in Goldberg sale 109 (Los Angeles, January 2019), where it sold for $276. The catalog description[1] noted, "Greece. 10 Lepta, 1830. John Kapodistrias. Phoenix. Striking weakness near edge, flan flaws and light surface corrosion. Very Fine to Extremely Fine." After wresting her independence from the Turks, Greece was established as a republic under John Capodistrias. This regime lasted until 1831. This one year type is rare in nice condition. The subtype with a solid circle around the phoenix (KM 3) is also known for 1830 but is even scarcer.

Recorded mintage: 1,200,000.

Specification: copper.

Catalog reference: KM-8.
