The écu d'or au soleil remained the standard French gold coin for centuries, until the reforms of the 1640's introduced the milled louis d'or. When this type was issued for the county of Dauphiné, its face value was 36 sols, 3 deniers tournois, which value was changed from time to time by royal proclamation as the price of gold went up or down.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.49 g, 0.963 fine gold, this specimen 3,31 g.
