Goldberg sale 85, lot 4324

This specimen was lot 4324 in Goldberg sale 85 (Los Angeles, June 2015), where it sold for $282. The catalog description[1] noted, "Southern Rhodesia. 2 Shillings, 1939. George VI. Scarce date. NGC graded EF-45." Rhodesia, named after diamond magnate Cecil Rhodes, was created a self-governing colony of Britain in 1923. Coinage commenced in 1932. The colony was federated with Northern Rhodesia in 1956 but is now Zimbabwe. This type was struck 1939-42 and is scarce in nice condition.

Recorded mintage: 120,000.
