This medio dinero, or half dime, was struck in Lima in 1908. Most issued after 1898 were made from melted down one sol coins. Varieties and overdates abound; for 1908, a 1908/7 is recorded in addition to the normal date. A earlier type, with a slightly different figure of seated Liberty, was issued 1863-64 (KM 189). The silver coin was replaced in 1918 by a copper-nickel five centavos.
Recorded mintage: 200,000.
Specification: 1.25 g, .900 fine silver, reeded edge.
Catalog reference: KM 206.2.
