Zurich 1736 20 schilling

This specimen was lot 34282 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $493.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Zurich. City 20 Schillings 1736 MS62 NGC. A coin with gunmetal patina over bold raised detail and prooflike surfaces that enhance the overall attractiveness. From the Redwood Collection, Part II." This type was issued intermittently 1718-68. According to the SCWC, 72 schilling = one thaler so 20 schilling = 5/18 thaler = one gulden. Normally, in southern Germany, one gulden = 2/3 thaler (48 schilling). In 1798, the canton of Zurich was forcibly incorporated into the Helvetic Republic.
