Sincona sale 59, lot 3025

This specimen was lot 3025 in Sincona sale 59 (Zurich, October 2019), where it sold for 2,000 CHF (about US$2,422 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Basel | Stadt und Kanton Basel, Halbtaler 1797, Basel. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. FDC. Kleiner Schrötlingsfehler. (Switzerland, city and canton of Basel, half thaler of 1797, Basel mint. Very rare in this condition, Cabinet piece. Brilliant uncirculated, Minor flan flaw.)"

This speicimen srealized double the catalog value. In 1798, the French occupied Switzerland and terminated cantonal independence.
