The specimen shown is from a type struck for Guatemala 1965-70. Guatemala still issues ten centavo pieces with the "Monolito de Quirigua" (the monolith of Quirigua, a Mayan stele). As occurred in the United States, the composition was changed from silver to base metal alloy in 1965.

Recorded mintage: 3,120,000.

Specification: 2.85 g, copper-nickel, 21 mm diameter.
