This specimen was lot 73580 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "FINLAND. 2 Markka, 1870-S. Helsinki Mint. Alexander II. PCGS AU-55. This deeply toned example provides great details and only a light brushing of wear on the surfaces, leaving this coin a nice collectible example from the series." This type was struck by the Tsarist regime 1865-70. When the Russian empire collapsed in 1917, the Finns obtained their independence. Post war coinage was copper-nickel.

Recorded mintage: 500,000.

Specification: 10.37 g, 0.868 fine silver, 27.5 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-7.1.
