This specimen was lot 74470 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Lira, 1886-R. Rome Mint. Umberto I. PCGS MS-62 Prooflike. This exceptionally handsome minor displays a nearly cameo appearance, with exceptionally reflective fields and icy devices that contrast beautifully. Some friction and contact is present, and consistent for the grade." This type was struck at Rome 1883-86 and 1899-1900 with some help from Milan in 1887. This is the most common date from Rome.
